What is BRCADA?

BRCADA stands for BReast CAncer Prevention Decision Aid. BRCADA is for you if you have a BRCA1 or BRCA2 genetic change and you are considering the preventive options for reducing your risk of breast cancer

Making decision about breast cancer preventive options can be very difficult, terrifying and emotional for some women. Some of the decisions may even be life-changing. Every woman has to decide which option is best for her.

In recognition and response to this challenge, BRCADA is designed to support you in making an informed decision that is right for you. It is intended to help facilitate efficient communication between you and your surgeon towards decisions that are more aligned to your personal values, goals and preferences.

BRCADA gives you information about the different preventive options that are available and helps you to clarify your values, concerns and support system that are important to your decision-making.

How to use BRCADA?

BRCADA is divided into different sections. The sections are presented in book format as the contents of BRCADA were adapted from the printed book. Choose the sections that are relevant to you.

Making choices of the different options of breast cancer prevention is not an urgent decision. Take your time to go through BRCADA, either on your own or with your family.

And as you go through BRCADA, write down any questions that you would like to ask your surgeon. If there are any medical terms that you do not understand, you can refer to the glossary .
